MATERIALS WE WORK WITH
At Photocat we have developed an extensive knowledge base for implementing a highly effective photocatalytic technology to the surface of building materials. Our approach has been granted more than 40 patents worldwide and more than 50 patents are pending, the main criteria for success is however that leading manufacturers in the Nordics, Germany, Spain and Canada have chosen to implement our solution.
Since 2009 the focus has been on developing and commercializing photocatlytic technology for concrete surfaces, bitumen membranes and hardwood floors. In 2018 we finally publisized the result of a three year study for an asphalt solution.
We are open to work with new materials and encourage committed manufacturers to get in contact with us.

We have developed a cost effective method to implement the photocatalytic technology in your production facility without impacting important factors such as your production speed and without adding new complex systems for you to operate.
We assess the compatibility of your product with our technology platform. We test according to the relevant ISO standards and facilitate 3rd party certification. Over the years we have also learned that commercializing photocatalytic building materials require an understanding of the technology itself and the problem it helps mediate. At Photocat we offer training sessions and material to help your sales force become fully equipped to bring our joint innovation to market.

WHY IMPROVE INDOOR AIR QUALITY
Poor air quality is directly linked to several different illnesses: heart disease, stroke, chronic lung disease and cancer, asthma. Especially children and elders are at risk. Air pollution causes ten times more premature deaths per year than traffic accidents.

Our living environments are becoming increasingly air-tight. This is good from an energy perspective, but from an air quality perspective it means we are locking in pollution stemming from a variety of sources in our building such as building materials, furniture, paints, cooking, cleaning agents, smoking and electrical appliances. All of which are known sources of sources of NOx and VOCs emissions. As we spend 16 hours daily inside the quality of the air we breathe is of critical importance.
In addition to the indoor sources of pollution a danish study found that appx. 75 % of outdoor pollution made its way into city apartments in the center of Copenhagen.

More than 7 million people die prematurely due to air pollution worldwide (United Nations, 2016). In Europe alone the number related to premature deaths due to poor air quality is more than 400,000. Approximately 90 % of the worlds total population is exposed to hazardous air quality. Poor air quality is one of todays world main threaths to human health.

In most cities the air quality is highly correlated with our everyday movement. When we take the bus, bike or walk to work, well, that is when traffic is at its heaviest and coincidentally that is when we are exposed to high levels of air pollutants such as NOx. The same goes for when we head back. Air quality is poorest during the day. Photocatalysis is activated by daylight.
